HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Happy Halloween!!  I hope that my East Coast friends have safely survived Hurricane Sandy.  We've had a few days off from school and it's been great because I've been SUPER sick and using the time to sleep and try to feel better.  My sister has been stuck in NYC for a few days longer than she anticipated, but hopefully she'll get home sometime soon.

With Halloween today, it means that stores will officially start inundating us with Christmas/Holiday stuff tomorrow... It also means the start of shopping for the Christmas season (if you haven't started already, which, gasp, I have). I've started started making some lists of things I'm making for friends and family.  I've even completed a few items on my list (whoa!).  Fact: It's my first Christmas out of grad school in what feels like a VERY LONG time, so I actually have time to think about the holidays in advance, instead of just barely coming up for air some time around December 18th/19th just in time to travel and order things last minute. Phew!

With planning ahead in mind, and hopefully with running the risk of being one of those inundating types, I'm sharing some of my felt hair bows early this year so that people can order them early and in time for the holidays.

I was inspired to make these last fall when I saw something similar in a shop.  I can make them in a ton of different colors, but I've highlighted the red embossed material here for holiday season. I wore one on Christmas day last year.

I make them in shapes that rage from adult size to little lady and mini size.  The red embossed bow above is adult size which you can compare the size of the photo below.

The bow measures 4 3/4 inches wide by 2 3/4 inches tall and has both a pin and alligator clip for versatility.

Soft White Hydrangea Heaven

I love hydrangeas.  They come in all kinds of colors and their blossoms are big and beautiful. The photo below are hydrangeas I grew in my garden early this summer. They sort of remind me of fluffy clouds or cotton candy.  They also make great flowers in weddings because depending on the color they're a really good deal for big luscious flowers (note: the purple and white flowers are the most expensive). 

One of the first pieces I ever sold in my shop was a custom hand-dyed blush hydrangea head band. It was modeled after this soft white hydrangea headband fascinator with silver tulle leaves:

I've also made a rounder version without the leaves to mix it up a bit and this piece was really popular at the beginning of this summer.  A customer suggested the combination of the pearls in the hair piece featured below.  I like it as an alternative to sparkly rhinestones.  The pearls add a subtle beauty to the piece overall.

Quirky Bobbles

I was looking for some cute buttons to jazz up my black winter coat a year ago and in my endless searching on Ebay and Etsy I came across a random large lot of buttons.  Of course I ended up getting way more buttons than I needed in order to get the few buttons I wanted, but it worked out because the buttons in the collection are really cute.  I started using some of them as quirky little centers for some of my hair pieces and I think they look pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself.

Go Bold or Go Home!

Well, okay, this hair piece has a gigantic soft tulle bow - so you already know why I love it.  But beyond the bow, I think that this is a really elegant as well as bold hair piece that is perfect for a bride who wants to make a statement on her wedding day.  And let's be real, it's also super fun!! When I came up with the design for this hair piece I was inspired by some of the big beautiful hair pieces I'd been seeing in wedding blogs at the time.  I really admired the women who wore big beautiful veil inspired hair pieces on their wedding day, because even though the tulle and flower makes a big statement, it it still fancy enough to not detract from the bride!

The blush magnolia combined with the beautiful rhinestone really ties this fascinator together.

Lavender Lovelies

There was a lavender explosion in the shop recently. I found this beautiful set of lavender flowers a while back and I knew I had to have them.  They've been sitting in my supply box for, geez, 4 months and I finally had some time to play around with them.  I came up with three slightly different designs and I think that they're all pretty fun.

Adorable Lily of the Valley Fascinator!

Okay - I know I shouldn't brag, but I'm super in love with these tiny little flowers and I can't help myself. When I stumbled across them a few weeks back I knew I had to have them!!  They remind me of Lily of the Valley flowers which is what Kate Middleton carried as her bouquet on her wedding day to Prince William in April 2011!!

This piece can also be mixed up a bit with tiny sky blue rhinestones!

I attached a few toupee clips which ensure it will stay snug in your hair - they're kind of my new favorite way of attaching fascinators.  This piece is also versatile enough that would also look great on a headband too.
